01 Overview

About this format

Cut-to-size stone is made to your drawings: flat pieces cut to the dimensions of a specific project. It suits floors, walls, facades, thresholds and stair treads where a standard modular size does not fit. Travertine is a standard format; tuff and basalt are quoted on request.

Where tiles come in modular sizes, cut-to-size pieces follow a project schedule. Each piece has its own mark, dimensions, thickness and finish. Typical uses are floors with a defined set-out, wall and facade panels, thresholds and stair treads. Profiled and carved pieces are a separate format; see architectural elements.

In general, pieces are laid out on slabs from the schedule, cut to size and then finished. Ask for the pieces for one area to come from the same lot, so that tone and pattern stay consistent across the area.

Send a drawing or a cutting list with piece marks, quantities, dimensions, thickness, edges and finish. Mark the critical dimensions, state the tolerance you need and agree it in writing. Add spare pieces for breakage and site changes, and say if pieces must be numbered for the laying sequence.
